Kooky Iranian Government Outlaws the Color Green
Politics, Uncategorized — By Arnold Vintner on February 12, 2010 at 3:15 pmIranian police and quazi-official government thugs have been wandering the streets of Tehran, harassing people found to be wearing the color green. Apparently, green is a fashion statement which supports the Iranian opposition party. Why anyone would not be in the opposition party is a mystery to me.
The Iranian government just blocked all access to GMail from inside Iran. Apparently, access to email from the free world might tempt too many Iranian citizens to think for themselves, and that’s never good for an absolute dictatorship.
Iranian police are also going to people’s homes and ripping out their satellite dishes so that Iranian citizens aren’t harmed by dangerous soap operas and TV game shows. Mobile phones are also being confiscated from random Iranian citizens on the streets.
Even more strangely, the mothers of nineteen children who were murdered by the Iranian government during the recent period of unrest have been arrested. Perhaps they will be charged with the crime of bearing unsuitable children?
The police have also shut down bus service to the capital city in an attempt to prevent citizens from joining protests in Tehran.
Both Iranian and international media have been instructed to report only pro-government news.
Really, it’s impossible to make this stuff up. I couldn’t invent stories this silly. Only complete withdrawal from the real world can make people believe that these idiotic strategies could actually work. If Ahmenijihad and his loonies don’t straighten up and start acting like civilized people they are going to suffer the same fate as Benito Mussolini and Nicolae Ceauşescu.
