Web Sites Which Publish Fake News and Other Hoaxes

Web Sites Which Publish Fake News and Other Hoaxes

A small group of morally-challenged individuals have discovered that there is a great deal of money to be made by publishing fake news articles. These rags publish ridiculous headlines like “Monsanto is Killing Your Children”, “Ukrainians Worship the Devil”, and “Hillary Clinton’s Secret Affair with Vladimir Putin”. These inflammatory headlines are then promoted though social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. The owners of these sites make money from ads that display on their sites when people read the articles. It appears that the more inflammatory and unbelievable the headline, the better it spreads through social media. Debunking these stories can be almost impossible, as the “facts” they contain are unverifiable and therefore unfalsifiable. Although there is no evidence that Hillary Clinton is having an affair with Vladimir Putin, there is also not evidence that she is not having an affair with Vladimir Putin.

A few of these web sites may be run by truly insane people who actually believe what they publish, but if so that is a small minority. One of the proofs of this is how obviously fake the articles are. Old and heavily debunked articles from several years age are routinely updated with new dates and names and republished as new stories. Some site owners may believe that they are trying to shift public opinion by convincing the public to believe outrageous lies. Followers of this Overton Window theory believe that by making wildly unbelievable and bombastic claims, their slightly less unbelievable claims will feel more acceptable to readers. While this certainly may be true, that does not make it a morally acceptable strategy for discussing public policy. Other site owners may feel that they are simply “talking to their base” and that this relieves them of any moral duty to tell the truth. This is a reflection of the sad state of moral thinking in our society today. A few sites claim to be “humor” or “satire” sites and exist mainly to provide links which people can use to fool unsuspecting victims on social media. These sites will sometimes post a disclaimer in the site footer, but often these disclaimers will disappear and reappear over time. A small number of sites on our list are simply government-funded propaganda sites which post ridiculous claims from tyrannical governments which want to improve their public image or attack the public images of their opponents.

The sites on the list below are a mix of all of these types of sites. Strict categorization is not simple as many of these sites exist in multiple categories or switch between categories based upon whatever proves to be most profitable at the current time.

Each of these sites may, at times, publish legitimate news articles. This is a useful technique for making the illegitimate articles harder to spot. The fact that a home burglar doesn’t rob houses three nights a week does not make him any less of a home burglar. The fact that some of these sites occasionally posts a legitimate article does not make the publication itself legitimate. Any news site will occasionally publish a poorly-researched article. To earn a spot on this list, the publication must show a clear disregard for the objective truth. We all know how terribly mainstream media outlets like ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN fail to promote legitimate news stories. The promise of alternative media is that we can do better than traditional centralized mass-media. The publishers listed above are purposefully failing to do better. They are actually doing a worse job than the mainstream media — something many of us once thought impossible.

This site as well as fakenewschecker.com are FAKE. They use SNOPES which tells you it's government propaganda. For example, they say C2CAM is fake... for reporting on their guests. Well, that's not NEWS it's just background info on their guests. Is that fake news? I don't think so... it's just who is going to be interviewed. So you can see that bias here, sweeping so broadly, discredits them greatly. C2C never claimed to be 'news'...  It's like saying, I'm going to interview a giraffe and he's an animal that has got a long neck... that's a FACT!

The New American is probably the best source of news possible and by calling them fake, well again, discredits this site and fakenewschecker.com

TheNewAmerican.com is perhaps the best magazine for people who love liberty in the entire world and has been publishing the unvarnished truth for 30+ years. Never heard of "Fort Liberty" on the other hand.

WMD in Iraq....sad so many US and other troops had to die for that fake news still great for the US armaments industry who sell arms to everyone causing more conflict everywhere. Do you know, if there was a ban on the sale of arms and controls on borders to prevent the movement of arms and materials to make arms, there would be no wars and very few people would be killed, very few families, homes and businesses would be destroyed and immigration of the dispossessed would collapse.

Thanks for the list...even more sources of real news for everyone to search....nothing like shooting yourself in the foot....

@onepablo So what? And while what you just said is true, it would be better to explain your reasoning next time.

I personally do not like violence outside of fiction and fantasy, and I want people to solve problems nonviolently. But I do belive in the use of lethal force as a last resort when non-lethal use of force options cannot be used.

Duffle Blog is satire. Nobody is supposed to believe that the stories are factual...

So how about a list of legitimate sources?

@BugByte I bet it's a much shorter list! Seems like we can't get REAL, HONEST news anywhere anymore!

You forgot CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS and sometimes FOX

MitchPowell

@AnthonyNassaur - No, those are legitimate sources, but you actually do have to use some reasoning skills to discern any bias or spin. It really does help if one watches news only if one has some education on which to rely while assessing the information.

@AnthonyNassaur Last paragraph states...  "We all know how terribly mainstream media outlets like ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN fail to promote legitimate news stories."

Those who don't want the real truth out would say that the LA TIMES, NY TIMES, WALLSTREET JOURNAL are all fake. If you work for a large paper main stream news you have to feed the populace the BULL STUFF that you are given to feed them. But you work for an independent news group you can report the truth. Unfortunately the big guy can then turn around just like what it says here and say it's all bogus. So I would believe the independent news group over ANY of the big media.. For they are the fakes and the media feeding the populace BULLSHIT!

One bone to pick:

Alternet isn't "fake" news.   It IS merely very iiberal.    There's a distinction.     I avoid Alternet because their headlines  tend to be needlessly inflammatory.    But "fake" wouldn't apply, at least in the sense that sites like Your Newswire  are "satire."

By the way, satire is usually humorous.    The "satire" on fake news sites is usually simply a fat lie and lacks wit.

RobertWeigel
RobertWeigel

@MichaelWaters I've never seen it before.  It looks like a worthless tabloid with ''Is DT a russian agent" etc. unbased articles that are gossip oriented.

That's what the OP should have used instead of 'monsanto is killing your children'.  lol.  It's the same kind of thing in form but the Monsanto one actually has credibility scientifically since they have generated  stuff claiming it doesn't harm humans...while in REALITY it kills gut bacteria that are critical for proper digestion!  So yeah it does lead to early deaths and those children will die younger because of the issues that are spawned from Monsanto's harmful products.

Meanwhile where the evidence that Trump is a russian agent?

Many of these sites listed provide the ONLY truth we can find.  Read Bob Nichols of Veterans Today and his report on radiation readings across America.  Bob is an award winning author and researcher from San Francisco.

This is complete garbage, as this is trying to discredit good credible websites.

Not one mention of mainstream media which they have been proven to lie, and provide disinformation to the public with the governments say so. Pathetic article.

Just part of a disinformation campaign that's been waged now since the dawn of media and time,

RobertWeigel
RobertWeigel

@Annie62 @StewRay Fox gradually morphed into a compromised source.  They initially threw conservatives some bones to get them on board.  But then it started coming to crucial NWO infrastructure items like... running Ron Paul out of town.  Fox led the charge.

Annie62

@StewRay For everyone that is saying mainstream media is not mentioned in this article, read the last paragraph. The only problem, Fox News is not mentioned.

Complete and total hack job.  The mainstream media does not get a single mention in this list?  Obviously this is just one more attempt by liberals to push forward their amoral agenda because the truth means absolutely nothing to them.

@RobertWeigel @levimf351 Wow, if only the presidential nominees could participate in an actual, logical Oxford Style debate instead of the dreck we are witnessing, but, not here, not in the U.S.A., Inc.

RobertWeigel
RobertWeigel

@LindaSobieski @RobertWeigel @levimf351 exactly but yeah not on any country's platform I'm aware of.  The power brokers see that kind of thing and quickly yank it.  They don't WANT logic/truth to prevail.  They operate under the shroud of darkness for their deeds are dark and manipulative.  They don't have real lives that can flourish without manipulating other people.

RobertWeigel
RobertWeigel

@levimf351 It's not owned by the monopoly that controls Reuters etc.  Seriously the person who posted this article is a dim wit OR they are actually a subversive person trying to deceive people obviously.  They talk about seeding legit information amidst the false stuff.  WELL THE PROBLEM IS the sites they do NOT mention above (eg. CNN, NBC etc.) LEAD THE PACK to the point where anchors have called out their employers citing the fact that their supervisors tried to get them to falsely report on very important things.

Of course CNN, FOX etc. will report legitimate stories.  Macy's had a parade.  Sure.  fine.  That's witnessed by many AND it has no bearing on the agenda of the owners and their 'handlers'.  But when it comes to things that they can conspire to deceive a good portion of the world since they are the sole major source on a story AND that story has bearing on people's perception of things that matter to mega-rich families that own the major media historically, THEY LIE LIKE A RUG!

And a few people catch inconsistencies and begin to post 'conspiracy theories' about it.  Using that..darn 'logic' thing....and then clowns like the guy who posted this article criticize them for it.

Simply sick.  I'd like to get this guy in an actual debate about a topic where he's forced to follow the format of logical debate where one of us makes an assertion and the other refutes or agrees and we progress towards a conclusion on a matter.

Odd that a site called Fort Liberty is so biased against libertarian sites.

Fake by who's standard? The standard that allows mandated vaccines, gmo food, geoengineering of and spraying of our skies, lies regarding 9/11 and false flags like Sandy Hook, Boston, and Syria, news that claims the US is in Syria to save Syrians.
Propaganda as news is not news it's social engineering and manipulation.

Here is the best listing I have found so far: http://www.fakenewswatch.com/
It breaks them down into three categories which help you understand why they are detrimental. But I found one I'm concerned about NOT yet on any of these lists. http://departed.co/ It allows anyone to post almost anything on it. If you type in satire, hoax, fake, or clickbait in the search bar it does show different articles. But I'm assuming that is the ones the "posters" has self identified, or the webmaster has identified. Shouldn't sites this be tagged as "potentially" satire, hoax, fake, or clickbait?

How come you didn't mentioned FOX news which has been found his audience as the worst informed in the nation or Salon a staunch supporter of Clinton, or Soro's The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists.
And no media can be worse than mainstream corporate media, Anderson Cooper CNN journalist a well known fact, as an agent of the CIA. Ask Amber Lyon about CNN or Jane Akre an American journalist best known for the whistleblower lawsuit by herself and her former husband, Steve Wilson, against Fox on a story regarding the agricultural biotechnology company Monsanto and recombinant bovine growth hormone (rBGH), a milk additive that had been approved for use by the Food and Drug Administration but also blamed for a number of health issues. Not to deny there are Soro's and other alternative trolls out there in alternative media but mainstream media are the lowest ones making the claim they are all truthful and what they are really doing are imposing sentiments on the public to create consensus for certain agendas convenient to a few, they are the ones perpetrating the illusion of the matrix on the masses and therefore manipulating policy by supporting the government narrative which as we know, follow a specific agenda not beneficial to the public and disseminates propaganda. Stop trolling and become a productive, useful being helping humanity, not feeding lies and helping in the confusion. By the way, in your list you also missed other alternative news that do a good job at telling the truth. We don't want you to have an incomplete list....lol

The US government has unbound the legal regulations against using propaganda against foreign audiences and American citizens. The intention is to sway public opinion by using television, radio, newspapers, and social media targeting the American and foreign people in controlled psy-ops.

The newest version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) has an amendment added that negates the Smith-Mundt Act of 1948 (SMA) and the Foreign Relations Authorization Act of 1987.

These laws made propaganda used to influence foreigners and US citizens illegal. Without these laws, disinformation could run rampant throughout our information junkets.
