Obama Administration Violating Restrictions Against Propaganda

Since 1951, the U.S. Congress has placed restrictions in its annual appropriation bills which state “No part of any appropriation contained in this or any other Act shall be used for publicity or propaganda purposes within the United States not heretofore authorized by the Congress.”

The Congressional Research Service issued a clarification in 2005 which explained “publicity or propaganda is defined by the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) to mean either (1) self-aggrandizement by public officials, (2) purely partisan activity, or (3) covert propaganda.”

And yet look at the taxpayer-funded self-aggrandizement by Barack Obama. The Obama administration publishes a fan blog at blogs.america.gov/obama and uses Google AdWords to advertise the blog and drive traffic to it.

The entire blog is nothing but self-aggrandizement by and for Barack Obama. It’s a cult of personality of a type and level with which the United States has not been previously afflicted. This is the sort of president-worship which we normally expect to see only in backwards totalitarian nations like Zimbabwe or Cuba.

This mindless drivel should not be produced and promoted using taxpayer funds. If Obama’s fan boys wish to create a web shrine to “the one”, they should be forced to do so out of his own quite sizable campaign funds.
