You Do Not Have a Glandular Condition — You Have a Discipline Deficiency
A few weeks ago, my wife overheard a rather hefty lady excuse her weighty condition with the phrase “I have a glandular condition.” When my wife told me the story, my immediate response was “Yeah, with your salivary glands.”
The story British Scientists Identify Obesity Gene made a big splash in the news recently. The fine print said “One in six people has the most vulnerable genetic make-up and weighs an average 3 kilograms more than those with the lowest risk.” Yes, the difference that this “fat gene” makes is 3 kilos (6.6 pounds). This finding will be used by more overweight individuals to avoid personal responsibilty for their conditions.
This is ridiculous, of course, as people who are a mere 6.6lbs overweight normally do not see themselves as being overweight at all. It’s the people who are 40+ pounds overweight who would benefit most from taking responsibility for their own health issues.
The first step to recovery is admitting that you have a problem. If people continue to deny responsibility for their health problems, they will never invest time and energy into creating and implementing solutions for healthier living.
