Canadian Radio Stations Stand Up for Free Speech

Canadian Radio Stations Stand Up for Free Speech

The Canadian Broadcast Standards Council recently banned the Dire Straits’ hit song Money for Nothing from the Canadian airwaves.  Amusingly, this was not because the song’s title so aptly described the failed Canadian welfare state, but because of one line in the song which the government felt was offensive to homosexual men.

In the song, Mark Knopfler sings “See the little faggot with the earring and the makeup; Yeah buddy that’s his own hair; That little faggot got his own jet airplane ;That little faggot he’s a millionaire.”  The lyric, of course, is a joke.  The song refers to jealous home appliance salesmen talking about Mark Knopfler.  In this context, the “little faggot” refers to Mark himself — although Mark is a heterosexual.  The entire song is a joke about what people think of musicians and the music business, similar to Pink Floyd’s Gravy Train.

Several Canadian radio stations have chosen to openly defy the ban by playing Money For Nothing back-to-back for an hour or more.

Edmonton K-97 in operations manager Patrick Cardinal stated “If you look at the context of the term, it’s an artistic portrayal of a bigoted person looking at the riches of the music industry. Our listeners absolutely support our right to play the song. If we get a CBSC complaint about it, we will vigilantly defend our right to play it.”

Martin Luther King Jr. said, “Just as it is the duty of all men to obey just laws, so it is the duty of all men to disobey unjust laws.”  These Canadian radio stations are doing their duty — and the duty of all free men — by choosing to disobey an unjust law.

And now, for your listening enjoyment, Money For Nothing

Che Guevara – Revolutionary Jerk

Che Guevara – Revolutionary Jerk

Ernesto “Che” Guevara has become a fantastic symbol for the American left, adorning t-shirts, hats, coffee mugs, and dorm room walls across the nation.

This is astounding when you stop to consider the actual person who “Che” was. Che was a racist who ranted against Africans. He hated homosexuals and had them imprisoned. He disdained both rock music and jazz and persecuted musicians. He burned thousands of books and murdered Cuban authors. His special pleasure in life was murdering young boys in front of their mothers. This is Che, the leftist hero.

Fidel Castro put Che in charge of the La Cabaña prison. He loved executions so much that he had a window in his office overlooking the yard where the firing squads did their grisly work. He henchmen would bind men and boys for Che to shoot personally in the evenings to satisfy his sadistic urges. Che wrote to his father “I’d like to confess, papa’, at that moment I put a bullet in a mans head and watched him die slowly, I discovered that I really like killing.” He bragged of ordering the executions of 2,500 political opponents by 1959.

Several prisoners who survived the La Cabaña death camp recall one dark evening when a 14 year old boy was thrown into their holding cell. The boy had unsuccessfully tried to defend his father from Guevara’s assassins. Guards came and dragged the boy out of the holding cell. Che ordered the boy to kneel boy, put his pistol to the back of the boys neck, and fired. Such is the bravery of Che Guevara.

Che’s exhilaration at murdering young boys did not end at La Cabaña. On another occasion he had a child soldier in his own army shot without trial for stealing food.

Roberto Martin-Perez, one of the prisoners who survived Che’s time at La Cabaña, recalls “Castro ordered mass murder, but for him it was a utilitarian slaughter, in order to consolidate his power. A classic psychopath, the butchery didn’t seem to affect him one way or the order. But Che Guevara, as his chief executioner, relished the slaughter. You could see it in his face as he watched men yanked from their cells and tied to the execution stake.”

More than anything, Che enjoyed the visits of mothers who came to the prison to plead for the lives of their children. He instructed his men to lead the mothers to his office where he would pick up the telephone and order the execution of their children. He most loved to see the terror on their faces and hear the sounds of their sobbing. Roberto Martin-Perez remarked “There was something seriously, seriously wrong with Che Guevara.”

Che was ostensibly murdering all of these people in the name of the people. This story grows a little thin when you consider that Che was at the time living in a stolen mansion with his own swimming pool, sauna, massage salon, and private yacht harbor. Perhaps this is what excites the leftist about Che.

The real Che is certainly not the rebellious individualist portrayed by many on the left. Regis Debray, one of Che’s closest associates, described him as “an authoritarian through and through”. Che’s personal opinion of himself might best be understood by noting that he often signed his correspondence as “Stalin II.” Che expressed his own opinion of rebellious youth as such: “Youth must refrain from ungrateful questioning of governmental mandates. Instead they must dedicate themselves to study, work and military service. The very spirit of rebellion is reprehensible.”

Nine-time Grammy award winning Cuban jazz legend Paquito D’Rivera expressed the confusion that all rational men must feel regarding Che’s celebrity status among the left. “Che hated artists, so how is it possible that artists still today support the image of Che Guevara?”  D’Rivera was in Cuba when Che and his goons tried to stamp out both jazz and rock music.  Paquito told reason.tv “Che was an inspiration for me. I thought I have to get out of this island as soon as I can, because I am in the wrong place at the wrong time!”

Fortunately for musicians, artists, authors, homosexuals, and t-shirt salespeople, Che’s reign of terror came to a sudden end when he and his companion Willi were caught by two Bolivian soldiers as he was attempting to export the Cuban revolution to that unwilling nation. Che dropped his fully-loaded weapons and surrendered without a fight. In a rare moment of justice in the Universe, Che died begging for his life during his own execution, wailing “Don’t shoot – I’m Che! I’m worth more to you alive than dead!”

Che Guevara Quotes

Here are a few quotes from Che, to give you a good feel for the thought process of this leftist hero:

“The blacks, those magnificent examples of the African race who have conserved their racial purity by a lack of affinity with washing, have seen their patch invaded by a different kind of slave: The Portuguese. These two races now share a common experience, fraught with bickering and squabbling. Discrimination, and poverty unite them in a daily battle for survival but their different attitudes to life separate them completely: the black is indolent and fanciful, he spends his money on frivolity and drink; the European comes from a tradition of working and saving which follows him to this corner of America and drives him to get ahead, even independently, of his own individual aspirations.”

“Mexicans are a rabble of illiterate Indians.”

“Bolivian campesinos are simply Animalitos.”

“Youth must refrain from ungrateful questioning of governmental mandates. Instead they must dedicate themselves to study, work and military service. The very spirit of rebellion is reprehensible.”

“My nostrils dilate while savoring the acrid odor of gunpowder and blood… Crazy with fury I will stain my rifle red while slaughtering any surrendered enemy that falls in my hands! With the deaths of my enemies I prepare my being for the sacred fight and join the triumphant proletariat with a bestial howl!”

“Hatred as the central element of our struggle… Hatred that is intransigent… Hatred so violent that it propels a human being beyond his natural limitations, making him violent and cold- blooded killing machine… We reject any peaceful approach. Violence is inevitable. To establish Socialism rivers of blood must flow. The victory of Socialism is well worth millions of atomic victims!”

“The U.S. is the great enemy of mankind! Against those hyenas there is no option but extermination! If the nuclear missiles had remained (in Cuba) we would have fired them against the heart of the U.S. including New York City!”

The Ladies in White

The Ladies in White

Las Damas de Blanco (The Ladies in White) is a group of almost suicidally brave Cuban women. The group formed in 2003 after the Cuban dictatorship arrested seventy-five journalists, librarians, and human rights defenders.

The individuals were arrested in clear violation of Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which guarantees the right to “seek, receive, and impart information and ideas of all kinds, regardless of frontiers, either orally, in writing or in print, in the form of art, or through any other media of his choice.” The individuals were convicted at summary trials sentenced to prison terms of up to twenty-eight years.

The Ladies in White gather at St. Rita’s Church to pray for their imprisoned relatives. After each Mass, the women walk to a nearby park. During the walk, each lady in white wears a button with a picture of her imprisoned relative and the number of years for which he is to be jailed.

The Cuban government has repetitively blocked the womens walk, organized thugs to assault the women during their journey, dragged the ladies from their walk into police custody, and ransacked their homes.

In March of last year, nine of the ladies had to seek hospital treatment after a particularly bad Sunday. The President of the European Parliament has condemned the police brutality which led to these injuries. Amnesty International has called on the Cuban regime to guarantee the women’s security and to stop repressing legitimate dissident and harassing those who are only asking for justice and the right to exercise their freedom of expression. The Cuba Study Group decried the event as evidence of the Cuban government’s continued use of repression and intimidation of its own people.

The Ladies in White may be best understood by reading this 2006 statement:

On Aug. 7, as on every Sunday since March 30, 2003, the Ladies in White attended church at the Santa Rita de Casia Church and walked down the middle of Fifth Avenue in Miramar, Havana. But this wasn’t an ordinary Sunday. It was the Sunday after the provisional delegation of power by Fidel Castro to Raúl Castro and five other Cuban leaders.

This movement of the Cuban civil society does not have a political nature, ideological preferences or confessional exclusions. We do not challenge and we’re not a party. We have neither a spokeswoman nor a hierarchy. We are the voices of the 75 innocent prisoners of conscience, imprisoned during the Black Spring of 2003, and our families. We have suffered much, but we harbor neither hatred nor resentment.

If anything has become evident this week, it’s that the government of Cuba must open itself to its people and simultaneously to the world. The inner fear can be smelled, can be felt on the empty streets of Havana and in cities and towns all over the country. . . . The quiet and timorous commentaries do not match the noisy and fun-loving idiosyncrasy [of the Cuban people].

But the causes of this unreal calm make no one feel comfortable in the stillness and near absence of the habitual sounds. It’s as if everyone had come to a halt, astonished. We have felt the surveillance, and sensed the repressive elements preparing to act at the slightest signal.

Cuba will never again be the same. The people deserve the right to express themselves without fear, to know what’s happening, to contribute their opinions, to participate in the decisions, to really be the masters of their fate, to help our homeland to recover economically and join the international commonwealth.

One of the first steps has to be the release of the 75 prisoners of conscience, those people sentenced unjustly in March 2003 to terms of up to 28 years; the 60 who are in prison and the 12 who have been released on parole for reasons of health and remain in the country; as well as the release of the other peaceful prisoners of conscience and political prisoners, including those who have been awaiting charges and trials since July 2005.

We Ladies in White aspire to live in liberty and democracy. We miss the respect for our rights and the peace among us all. These have been very important issues for Cubans for centuries now, an importance that was evidenced in the outstanding role played by Cuba in the drafting of the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted in 1948, and many other examples.

We shall not give up in our efforts, and even though we are unprotected women, we are filled with immense tenacity and passion for our relatives, our people and our homeland. Not always will there be many of us; everyone knows the many difficulties that exist in our country and the repression against us all. But every Sunday, and whenever it’s opportune, we shall be together and will surely redouble our efforts to participate. This seventh day of August, we walked with our traditional gladiolus in one hand and white lilies in the other, as signs of peace and love. We shall continue to struggle, because we are convinced that nothing is impossible if reason is on our side.

The leftist regime in Cuba currently holds approximately two hundred political prisoners and has resisted all domestic and international pressure to improve human rights.

Montel Williams Cited for Carrying Empty Pipe

Montel Williams Cited for Carrying Empty Pipe

Montel Williams, the decorated Naval intelligence officer and successful TV talk show host, was detained and cited at the Milwaukee Airport on Tuesday for possession of a marijuana pipe. No marijuana was found and the pipe tested negative for marijuana traces, but Mr. Williams was cited and fined $484.

Mr. Williams was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in 1999 and has been a medical marijuana user since 2003.  The purpose of Montel’s trip to Wisconsin was to participate in an experimental treatment for MS at the University of Wisconsin.  The treatment involves electrically stimulating the patients tongue.  These treatments began in September and Montel must travel to Wisconsin once a month to participate in the study.

Mr. Williams joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1974 and graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1980 with an engineering degree.  During his time in the service, Montel earned  the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, two Navy Expeditionary Medals, two Humanitarian Service Medals, a Navy Achievement Medal, two Navy Commendation Medals and two Meritorious Service Medals.

For his work hosting the Montel Williams Show from 1991 to 2998, Mr. Williams was awarded a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Show Host.   In 1998, Montel was awarded  a Special Services Award by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

The process of detaining Mr. Williams required four police officers.  Is preventing people like Montel Williams from accessing private health care services really the way that you want your precious tax dollars spent?

Thomas Jefferson wrote “Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add ‘within the limits of the law’, because law is often but the tyrant’s will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.”  It’s time that the United States government started paying attention to the U.S. Constitution.  It’s time that we as a people make a principled stand against giving the government the power to obstruct the rightful liberty of individual citizens.

One Million American Families Lost Their Homes in 2010

One Million American Families Lost Their Homes in 2010

The US Debt Clock shows that 1,059,638 American families lost their homes to foreclosures in 2010.  This us up approximately 10% from the record number of roughly 900,000 home foreclosures in 2009. In comparison, around 100,000 homes are foreclosed in a “normal” year.

Continued unemployment and underemployment make it impossible for many borrowers to meet their loan obligations. This trend will likely become worse as tax increases, new regulations, and government mandated salary and benefit increases force Americans businesses to lay off even more employees.

The foreclosure rate is so high that lenders are slowing down the process, allowing non-payers to stay in the homes they once owned. The banks are doing this to prevent a glut of unsalable homes from further depressing real estate values.

From the time a borrower becomes 30 days late on a mortgage payment, it takes approximately 15 months for the lender to foreclose on the home. More than seven million American homes are currently somewhere in the foreclosure process.

These Americans have lost the equity they owned in their homes and have now become renters. Their net worth in many cases moved from a positive to a negative. The American dream, which once seemed so natural to them, has been replaced by the nightmare of a thirteen trillion dollar national debt, an unemployment rate approaching ten percent, and a national currency which is slowly being debased of value. Not only do their have fewer dollars, but each dollar that they do have is worth less. More importantly, their ability to earn additional dollars is being constricted by federal regulations which have strangled the life out of the free market.

We have reached the end of a long era of prosperity for the American people.

CAIR Pressures WordPress.com to Delete Blog

WordPress.com, the worlds most popular free blog hosting site, bowed to pressure from CAIR to delete a blog which the Islamist organization found objectionable.

Visitors to the site now receive a message which states:

bootislam.wordpress.com is no longer available.

This blog has been archived or suspended for a violation of our Terms of Service.

CAIR is an Islamist hate group with ties to the terrorist organization Hamas.  CAIR co-founder Omar Ahmad clearly stated the groups goals when he said that “Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant.”  CAIR has referred to the conviction of the 1993 World Trade Center bombers “a travesty of justice” and called the conviction of Omar Abdel Rahman a “hate crime.”  CAIR has also criticized the extradition of Hamas terrorist Mousa Mohammad Abu Marzook as “anti-Islamic.”

Steven Pomerantz, the FBI’s former chief of counter-terrorism, stated that “CAIR, its leaders and its activities effectively give aid to international terrorist groups.”   CAIR was named as an unindicted co-conspirator in federal prosecution of the Holy Land Foundation, an Islamist organization set up to funnel money to the terrorist group Hamas.  At the Holy Land Foundation trial, an FBI agent reported that CAIR was “listed as a member of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Palestine Committee”, that it had received money from the Foundation, and that CAIR co-founders Awad and Omar Ahmad were “listed as individual members [of] the Brotherhood Palestine Committee in America.”  During a 2008 retrial, FBI Special Agent Lara Burns designated CAIR “a front group for Hamas.”

Sam Harris, the noted scientist and author, referred to CAIR as “an Islamist public relations firm posing as a civil-rights lobby.”

For more information on CAIR, visit Anti-CAIR or visit the excellent summaries at CAIR: Islamists Fooling the Establishment or CAIR: ‘Moderate’ friends of terror.

If we in the free world allow Islamists to define the parameters of our free speech, we effectively give them the power to police the free flow of ideas in the Western world.  Do we really want CAIR, an organization which states that all women must wear a face covering, determining what we in the free would should be able to discuss?
