Sinn Watches
Sinn is a popular German brand of mechanical watches. This brand has been in the market since 1961. Over the years, it has built its reputation as one of the most widely collected mechanical watches stamped with the finest German engineering and craftsmanship.
Company History
The company was founded in 1961 in Frankfurt and Main by the renowned pilot and flight instructor Helmut Sinn. The company manufactured instrumental and flight watches based on Sinn's expansive aviation experience. Dissatisfied with the available watches for aviation and navigation during his time, Sinn embodied in his designs the features and functionalities that he felt were fit for the purpose of these timepieces. This is a design philosophy that has pervaded the company's culture up to this day. It has established itself as a leading manufacturer of high-quality, practical and functional precision instrumental watches.
In 1994, the company ownership and management were transferred to Lothar Schmidt. Mr. Schmidt is the former production head of IWC and A. Lange & Sohne. He changed the company's name to Sinn- pezialuhren zu Frankfurt, ("special watches from Frankfurt"). Under this new name, Mr. Schmidt further extended the boundaries of Sinn's high manufacturing expertise.
Technology
Sinn's trademark has always emphasized special instrumental watches capable of performing in adverse conditions. These include:
- high and low pressures and altitudes
- high speed
- strong magnetic interference
- intense heat and pressure
- elevated cold temperatures
- submersion in water
With the company under the management of Lothar Schmidt, Sinn has pioneered several innovative technologies. These further enhanced Sinn's performance under adverse conditions. These include:
- Tegiment Technology - a technique that hardens cases and bracelets to 1200 HV. This results in a watch case that is scratch-resistant and 4 times the hardness of stainless steel;
- DIAPAL Technology - a micro-lubricating technique that allows the movement's most important bearings to function without lubrication.
- The formation of a humidity-free environment for the movement and dial with the use of Argon gas with copper sulfate capsules.
- The filling of chambers with Silicon oil to create a watch that is extremely waterproof and water pressure resistant;
- The use for watch cases of U-boat steel, an excellent material for hardening and making the watch seawater resistant.
These technologies have made Sinn timepieces standard equipment in the most dangerous and extremely difficult operational environments. These time pieces are also issued to the German military and elite forces.
Sinn watches are also manufactured and marketed worldwide. They have displayed designs that hold over time. Through the years, Sinn has gained a reputation as both an elegant stylish watch and a leader in high functionality and innovative mechanical watch technologies.
