John Cusack Almost Gets His Wish

John Cusack Almost Gets His Wish

On Sunday, John Cusack sent a message to his followers on Twitter encouraging violence against FoxNews, Dick Armey, and Newt Gingrich:

“I AM FOR A SATANIC DEATH CULT CENTER AT FOX NEWS HQ AND OUTSIDE THE OFFICES [OF DICK] ARMEY AND NEWT GINGRICH-and all the GOP WELFARE FREAKS.”

On Wednesday, leftist environmental activist James Jay Lee entered The Discovery Channel with a firearm and held several people as hostages before he was shot and killed by the police approximately four hours later.

Lee was reported to be wearing “what appeared to be metallic canister devices” , but there is no word yet on what those canisters actually contained.

In the past Lee had stated that he was inspired by “Ishmael,” a novel by environmentalist Daniel Quinn and by Al Gore‘s movie “An Inconvenient Truth.” It is not unlikely that Lee’s actions on Tuesday were inspired by Cusack’s words on Sunday.

It is a good thing that we live in a (relatively) free country. It is a good thing that John Cusack’s freedom to wish death on the men and women of FoxNews is protected by the U.S. Constitution. At the same time, however, it would also be good if Mr. Cusack found the wisdom to use his rights with more responsibility.

It’s not a “right” to insight violence.Mr. Cusack could be held responsible if it were revealed that the gunman were infuenced by his tweet. Moreover,I thought we had hate crimes legislation in this country!!!
