Granny Got Her Gun

Venus Ramey, Miss America 1944, is in the spotlight again — this time for doing her part to ensure the safety and security of her fellow Americans.

Venus, now age 82, surprised an intruder on her farm in Kentucky.  When the thief tried to make a run for it, she shot out the tires of his car with her snub-nosed .38.   She held the criminal at gunpoint until the police arrived.

What makes this story special isn’t that Mrs. Ramey defended herself.  She could have done that merely by letting the criminal get away.  Instead, Mrs. Ramey stood up and defended us all by stopping the criminal and making certain that he faced justice.

Mrs. Ramey had to balance on her walker to fire her .38.  If it weren’t for that handgun, no one knows what would have happened to her at the hands of the lawless, miles from the nearest police officer.

Venus Ramey should be a role model for all Americans.
