7,000 French Jews ask the U.S. Congress for Asylum

In 7,000 French Jews ask USA for Asylum, INN reports the story of French Jews requesting asylum from the United States Congress.

The Jews are reacting to growing anti-Semitism in France and the increasing use of violence my French Muslims.

The letter asks the U.S. Congress to enact a law granting refugee status to French Jews.

I, of course, am all for this. I do not believe that people belong to states. I believe that individuals should be free to select nation states which best serve their needs. In addition, I believe that nation states should be able to choose immigrants which best meet their needs. These Jews are, as a group, well educated and hard-working people. They should quickly adapt to life in the United States and take their place as productive citizens, taxpayers, and service members. Our nation would be smart to accept them.

The New Colossus

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
“Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”
Emma Lazarus, 1883
