Gun Ownership

Friday, August 31st, 2007 | Posted in Politics | No Comments »

The annual Small Arms Survey released on Tuesday estimates that there are 270million privately owned firearms in the United States, .9 firearms for every American.

To my mind, that’s a good start. :)

That number represents a large percentage of the approximately 650 million firearms in private hands across the globe.  This is why Americans enjoy so much more freedom, peace, and prosperity than so many of our brothers in other lands.

And our lead in increasing;  Americans purchase more than half of the eight million new small arms which are manufactured every year.

Our close competitors include Finland (.56 firearms per person) and Switzerland (.46 firearms per person).

According to Keith Krause, the director of the Geneva-based study, “The figures dispel the idea that gun ownership and high levels of violence necessarily go hand in hand.  There’s no clear relationship between more guns and higher levels of violence.”

If you know someone who does not own a firearm — take them shooting.  Help them to learn about firearms and guide them through their first firearm purchase.  Do you part as an American to help keep America free.

Our Schools are Teaching the Wrong Lessons

Thursday, August 30th, 2007 | Posted in Politics | No Comments »

The Discovery Canyon Campus school in Colorado Springs has just banned the game “tag” on its playgrounds. This school is following two schools in the nearby Falcon School District who implemented a similar ban in 2005.

School officials at the Falcon schools said the move “encouraged more students to play games.” Banning games encourages students to play? By that logic, if they banned math, all of the students would start studying math? Perhaps that’s what they will try next.

These lazy school administrators are ducking their jobs. Their jobs are to teach children. Learning to play and work with others is one of the most important lessons that a child can learn in elementary school.

By preventing these children from playing together, these school administrators are retarding the children’s social and emotional growth. It’s no wonder that teenagers are so immature these days, with elementary schools like this.

The elementary schools fail in their tasks, and send unprepared children to the junior high schools. The junior high schools do the same and pass their problems on to the high schools. The high schools then graduate the 18yr old “children” and pass their problems on to colleges, businesses, and society as a whole.

How can we expect schoolchildren to mature if they are never forced to mature? How can e expect them to deal with problems in the real world if we constantly protect them from real-world problems such as getting along with their peers?

There is only one adult environment which matches the environment for which our children are being trained — prison. In prison, every inmate must follow a strict regimen where his time and actions are tightly controlled and his every social interaction is restricted and monitored. What environment could be more like an American public school?

If we want our children to succeed, we need to teach them to mature. We need to guide them into becoming adults. They won’t magically become mature, happy, and successful adults all on their own.

We must either demand that our public schools stop abdicating their responsibilities in this area. We can pull our own children from public schools and teach them either at home or in private schools, but that only solves part of the problem. We must do something to ensure that our property tax dollars are well spent and that all the children of our nation receive an education which prepares them to function in the real world. We should probably start by firing some of these failed “educators” who have given up on the task for which we pay them.

Opus Comic Censored

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007 | Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Opus, a left-wing coming by Berkeley Breathed, has been annoying American conservatives for years. The comic strip regularly takes pot shots at America and American values.

The comic strip found itself unexpectedly censored this weekend when 25 newspapers refused to print a plot line concerning one of the characters conversion to radical Islam.

Opus Comic

I would not support these newspapers censoring the Opus comic when it makes fun of Christianity and I do not support these newspapers censoring the Opus comic now that it has set it’s sights on Islam.

If your local newspaper doesn’t print this cartoon, I recommend that you can your subscription and let them know why you are canceling your subscription.  Freedom of Speech is a very important value for the American culture, and this is an important step in preserving that freedom.

Seventeen Pounds of Uranium Missing

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007 | Posted in Politics | No Comments »

The Communist Chinese have admitted to losing seventeen points of weapons grade Uranium.

The new was originally reported in the China Daily Newspaper as a side-note regarding the trail of four men accused of stealing the Uranium.

The Uranium included both U-235 and U-238. Either or both of these can be used to create nuclear weapons.

The Uranium has not been found and the defendants claim that they no longer know where it is.

My guess is that the money you and I pay for gasoline was used to purchase this uranium, and that this same uranium will eventually show up in NYC, DC, or Los Angeles.

Ammo Shortage

Sunday, August 19th, 2007 | Posted in Tactical Equipment | No Comments »

Shooters from all across the country are complaining about an ammo shortage — and no one seems to know why.

Consumers can’t get ammo from dealers, because they aren’t getting it from manufacturers and distributors and there is as yet no explanation of the sudden shortage.

Calibers Affected

This shortage started in the .308 caliber (7.62mm) and for a long time that was the only caliber affected. Then .223 caliber ammunition started becoming difficult to find. Now people are starting to complain about 9mm ammo being more difficult to acquire.

Is it a coincidence that these are the top three small arms calibers employed by the U.S. Armed Forces? The military purchased the vast majority of it’s ammunition from Alliant Techsystems, which manufactures it at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in Independence.

Because of this, shortages in the military and civilian ammunition markets do not generally effect each other. However, shortages in raw materials could affect both markets.

The Impact of Emerging Markets

India, China, and other emerging economies are experiencing a huge demand for metals such as copper and lead. These metals are also used to manufacture ammunition. The price of these materials has tripled over the last few years and some ammunition manufacturers may be experiencing a supply shortage.

Does OSHA Share the Blame?

OSHA is currently working on new rules that will reclassify ammunition as “explosives.” This could make it prohibitively difficult for your local Wal-Mart to sell ammunition. The OSHA regulations, as written, would require every Wal-Mart store to be evacuated during thunderstorms.

Ammunition manufacturers have to look at bureacratic idiocy like this and consider how it will affect their ability to sell ammunition in the future. If they believe that their ability to sell ammunition will be limited in the future, they will not invest in plants and equipment today.

The way the U.S. Presidential elections look today, we could soon see the Bill Clinton Gun Ban of 1994 replaced with the Hillary Clinton Gun Ban of 2009. That can’t look good to anyone who is considering an investment in an ammunition company.

On the lighter side

The state of Louisiana has a law that makes it illegal to rob a bank and then shoot at the bank teller with a water pistol. Forget the actual robbing of the bank and the mass public hysteria and detrimental physical and psychological problems that can stem from this event. If the robber plasters an unsuspecting teller with water ring the sirens that robber is getting the book throw at him.

Well, obviously this law is in effect to make an impact at trial and to add some more punishment, fines or jail time to the hapless robbers from court proceedings. None the less it is a fun little tidbit in Louisiana law. What would the teller testify to? That they got suckered into handing over bundles of cash under the threat of a water squirter? The severe anguish and trauma from a blast from a water squirt? I can’t speak for the teller and the possibility of phobias or flashbacks to other real robberies that might bring back some agonizing memories but I can safe say that 9 times out of 10 a bank teller would just end up scratching their head over the attack with H2O.

What is incredible to wonder is that the robber that squirts the teller with water while triumphantly running out the door will get more jail time and/or fines that a robber loaded with a real gun or bomb. Well of course the robbers packing some real heat will get more charges brought against them like assault with a deadly weapon and other charges related to the weapons used I guess the cerebral robber hedges his bets and might think that they can get a lesser penalty for just a little water gun which is great to hope of for in a terrible situation for victims. In a way it could saves lives in the long run and leave FICA to cover the rest.

Either which way this law is kind of peculiar compared to other laws. I say whatever law punishes criminals and preserves the living is alright by me. Keep the water pistol law going!

OJ Endorses Hillary

Thursday, August 16th, 2007 | Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

This is just too strange not to post. This is an interview with OJ Simpson where OJ endorses Hillary for President — largely because he plays golf and drinks beer with Bill Clinton and he believes that Bill will help Hillary do the job.

OJ and Hillary have a lot in common, as do Nicole Brown Simpson and Vince Foster…

Carl Levin is a Moron

Thursday, August 16th, 2007 | Posted in Politics | No Comments »

Senator Carl Levin, current chairman of the Armed Services Committee, is traveling to Iraq to tell the Iraqi’s “Folks, if you want a civil war in this country, that’s your choice. Count us out of your civil war. We’ve been here four-and-a-half years.”

Let’s ignore for a moment that creating foreign policy isn’t Carl Levin’s job and that he is exceeding his authority to an almost criminal level.

Instead, let’s focus on the idiocy of Levin’s position.

Who is behind the “civil war” in Iraq? It is obviously Al Qaeda, which is intentionally destabilizing the Iraq government with the goal of implementing a Sunni caliphate ruled by Sharia law.

Hello! Mr. Levin! Is there anything going on in your head? Don’t you remember Al Qaeda? We’re at war with them? Can’t you remember back as far as 9/11/2001?

If we weren’t fighting Al Qaeda in Iraq, we would be fighting them elsewhere. If we abandon our Iraq allies and allow them to be taken over by Al Qaeda, we will be granting Al Qaeda free access to all of Iraq’s natural resources. Iraq will become one large government-sponsored A Qaeda training camp. We will experience a wave of Islamist terrorism unknown in modern times.

Al Qaeda grew and prospered when the Taliban sponsored their organization with training camp facilities in Afghanistan. If we allow Al Qaeda to take Iraq, we will be giving them access to more training camps, people, arms, and money than they have ever had before.

From the available facts, I can only conclude that Carl Levin is a complete moron. I am disappointed with the people of Michigan for electing this idiot to Congress and allowing him to remain there all of these years.
